X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Review: Okay, yes. This movie is not very good. It definitely has some good moments and aspects, but it also has some low lows. The action is overall pretty good. All of Wolverine’s fighting scenes were good and the way we see he fights different opponents differently. The last fight (even though the other characters were fumbled) is pretty decent. He’s not the only character though. Agent Zero, Gambit, & Wade Wilson all have some great fight choreo as well. Also, I have to say. Hugh is jacked man. The scene of him busting out of the tank, fighting some dudes, jumping off a waterfall, and getting into the barn (all completely butt naked) is well done. And I read that Hugh said this was all him with no ‘digital touches,’ so dang. Some of the lows include like half-introducing characters (Emma Frost) and adding in characters just for the ‘hey that’s them’ factor (Cyclops, Professor X). Also, Wolverine’s claws, especially right after he gets the adamantium on them, look so cartoonish. They look significantly worse than in ‘X-Men’ which came out almost a decade prior. I have vivid memories of this movie as a kid and hearing they were making one for all the major characters.
High: The opening scene is great. Not the actual opening with Troye Sivan (yes that’s him) as young Logan, but the part with Wolverine & Sabretooth fighting in all the wars. Just an extremely well done sequence that on its own is 10/10.
Low: Weapon XI. I’m not even going to call him Deadpool. How did anyone ever think this was good? And where did they think it was going to go? Prior to becoming Weapon XI, Wade isn’t bad and the scene on the elevator is actually quite funny. I will say one positive is the scene of Deadpool killing XI at the end of ‘Deadpool 2’ is pretty funny.
