X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Review: Let’s just get this out of the way, this movie isn’t quite as bad as everyone makes it seem. It is not great. And it is the worst movie in the ‘X-Men’ series. No doubt. But its not awful. Just meh. I want to say that Sophie Turner was better in this movie than she was in the last, but she still wasn’t very good. The young actress (Summer Fantana) that played an 8 year old Jean honestly out acted her in the few scenes she was in. And the interaction between young Jean & Charles at the beginning of the film was good, so there’s that. I respect that they tried to correct one of the biggest errs of the previous films, but they did flop even harder, in my opinion. I’m sure the MCU will eventually adapt this line and here’s hoping they can do it well. In the coming week or so I’ll post an article about how I think the MCU should handle the X-Men.

High: I’m going to give this one to Nicholas Hoult since Hank played such a big role in this one and he has played the character wonderfully in every outing. Props to you Beast. Also the comic accurate looks for Professor X and the team were cool.

Low: Two things both of which have to do with a lack of character. I really think the minor role Quicksilver played was a fumble. He should’ve taken a more central role, similar to Apocalypse. I also think it was incredibly stupid to introduce the Magneto being his dad storyline in the prior to film for it to not even be mentioned here. And my biggest complaint. What is even the point of making one of these movies if Hugh Jackman doesn’t appear even in a cameo? I realize he had ‘retired’ from Wolverine at this point, which maybe to me was a sign they should’ve retired making these films.
