The Wolverine

Review: To me, this is the most forgettable movie in the ‘X-Men’ franchise. It’s not the best, not the worst, and so I just forget it exists. But it really is a decent film. It honestly is a great follow up to both ‘Origins’ & ‘The Last Stand.’ This movie is incredibly different than the other films in the series which I really respect. The opening scene with the bomb was so incredibly cool. Logan having this almost friendship with the bear was also really cool. I’ll say that I could’ve done without the kiss at the end, but Wolverine’s dynamic with all the other characters in the film was very strong. I also really wish the character of Yukio would’ve appeared, even just briefly, in ‘Days of Future Past.’

High: The mid-credits scene with Charles & Erik was honestly better than the whole rest of the movie. Logan not wanting to go through the TSA metal detector. His immediate recognition of both Magneto & Professor X. Their explanation and recruitment. It just was all incredibly well written and performed.

Low: The villains in this are extremely forgettable. There’s also like so many for no reason. Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova). Shingen (Hiroyuki Sanada). Noburo (Brian Tee). Yashida (Haruhiko Yamanouchi/Ken Yamamura). Then Harada (Will Yun Lee) is also antagonistic for a moment. The filmmakers had some wonderful actors at their disposable, but the characters were just very underwritten.
