Deadpool & Wolverine
Review: The ultimate team up, years in the making. I’m not afraid that as a film fan, I love comic book movies. Especially MCU movies. I’m not ashamed of that. I think this movie was a great ode to the superhero movies of the 2000s and was a beautiful send off to the Fox Marvel universe. I will keep this review spoiler free with my spoiler specific thoughts at the very bottom. Scroll all the way down for those. But I will say this was a good fun film and a great follow up to what was a great duo of ‘Deadpool 1 & 2.’ It also didn’t ruin ‘Logan’ which I know some fans were afraid of. The new supporting members of Emma Corrin & Matthew Macfadyen were pretty good and old favorite, Peter is great. And all the fight choreography was STUNNING especially that opening scene (shoutout Ryan Reynolds’ double Nick Pauley for that). And of course the film was hilarious. My favorite Deadpool gag is Reynolds referencing his own and other actors other work or real life. Maximum effort.
High: Ryan Reynolds has such good chemistry with every single person & dog that was on that screen, especially Huge Ackman.
Low: I’ll admit that the low is my own fault. I was disappointed but only based on my own expectations. I was really hoping it would connect more to the MCU main timeline, but I’m sure it’ll come in later installments.
Rating: 8.5/10
Spoilers Below
SPOILERS: I enjoyed the appearances. My favorite was Chris Evans return as Johnny Storm. I love the gag of Deadpool thinking it’s Cap and the whole character was executed (excuse the pun) to perfection. I was unmoved by Elektra & Gambit but didn’t mind them but I thought Blade was well done and I’m glad they didn’t harp on Ryan Reynolds being in that one too much (like they do with ‘Green Lantern;). I’ll admit the representation of MCU specific characters being Happy Hogan, Alioth, & Hunter B-15 underwhelmed me, but I understand not wanting it to get too crowded. I personally did really appreciate the Hulk cameo, Henry Cavill appearance, and the entire Deadpool Corps. I lost it when Nicepool looked at the camera and said “The Proposal.”
