Twisters
Review: Second best new movie I’ve seen this year, only beaten by ‘Dune’ and even that could be debatable in my head. So many good things I want to highlight. The dialogue, specifically between Glen Powell & Daisy Edgar-Jones’s characters, was great, especially during the scene at the rodeo (the ‘not my first rodeo’ line was great). The character development we see, even from supporting characters, was so well done (e.g. Ben setting down his camera to help in El Reno). The final act happening in a movie theater was BRILLIANT. Mr. Glen Powell is on a legendary run and he was so in his element as ‘Tornado Wrangler’ Tyler Owens. Powell is like a wonderful mixture of Harrison Ford, Matthew McConaughey, & Tom Cruise. I love that guy. This movie does something that I think is incredibly important and separates it from the first. It makes the science FEEL accurate. I am no meteorologist (duh) so I don’t know if the science is accurate, but they it least make it feel like it is which, to me, is more important for movies. And SLIGHT SPOILERS the twist of who the good guys really are may have been slightly predictable, but was effective nonetheless.
High: This is good quality American propaganda. Trucks. Naders. Cowboy hats. Rodeos. Beer. Country Music. ‘Merica. Just a great, fun, summer movie. (I genuinely considered spending the high just talking about how handsome Glen Powell is).
Low: As an Okie, I was disappointed at the people in my theater that they didn’t start cheering & applauding when Mike Morgan appeared on skin. Like in the same vain we cheered when Han Solo & Chewie showed up in The Force Awakens.
