Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

Reviews: An absolute fever dream of a film. I am utterly shocked a remake of this film hasn’t happened yet (though a Jim Carrey led remake was in the works in the late 90s). Often appearing in lists of the worst films ever made, everything about this film is just stupidly amazing. The fact the martians are clearly just people with poorly done face paint & silly costumes. I also love the touch of the polar bear clearly being a dude in a costume. The line that Billy delivers ‘You’ll pay for this… you… you MARTIAN!’ The elves & Mrs. Claus being frozen, but if you look closely they are clearly moving a little bit. The bad martians not being able to recognize that Dropo (another martian) isn’t actually Santa just because he has the suit on even though he’s still clearly green and has an antenna. It’s all brilliant. I don’t know anything about John Call, the actor who played Santa, but it genuinely feels like they just found a mall Santa and hired him, and I mean that in the best way. From a historical sense, this is the first documented movie appearance of Mrs. Claus (Doris Rich).

High: This movie is hilariously bad in the most endearing way possible. It’s low quality, low budget, but high fun. I hate that I just said that, but I’m sticking with it. If you can find humor in a silly movie take 81 minutes and go watch this on Prime.

Low: The acting is so bad, but I honestly think the movie would be worse if the acting was good. Bad acting is what you need in a movie about martians trying to come kidnap Santa.

Rating: 3/10, but a very fun 3/10
