The Star Wars Holiday Special

Review: Wow. This is a wreck. I know that’s not a secret and this is extremely infamous, but it was quite genuinely so bad. It was confusing and weird. There are so many questionable sequences like the variety of musical numbers, cut away gags, & just strange choices. I’m not sure how this ever got made. Carrie Fisher said she turned this on at her house when she wanted people to leave. Mark Hamill said he’s never seen the whole thing. And Harrison Ford pretended like he didn’t even know what it is. That is quite the lasting legacy from three of the main stars. I would highly recommend that you don’t watch this, especially if you’re a Star Wars fan. Unless you just love to watch stuff that sucks. Then you should watch this.

High: The animated sequence featuring the debut of Boba Fett was quite good. I loved that all the original actors played the animated versions of the character and there is a reason this really the only part of the special Lucasfilm has rereleased. It was fun and cool and the only thing keeping this from getting a straight 1/10.

Low: The worst part about this is that it just doesn’t feel Star Wars. I don’t care how bad something Star Wars is if it feels like it fits into the universe I have no beef with it. But this just doesn’t. It would honestly make so much more sense if it just had no connection whatsoever to the galaxy far far away. Also, the one segment with Diahann Carroll was exceptionally uncomfortable.
