Love Me

Review: This new film stars Kristen Stewart & Steven Yeun. It is a post-apocalyptic romance film about a smart buoy (Stewart) who boots back up & begins to interact with a satellite (Yeun), and well, they fall in love. Yep, it was weird. If you enjoy visual storytelling, you would really enjoy this film. The dialogue was fairly limited & pretty simple. At 92 minutes this film felt wait too long. I think it really should’ve capped at like 70, which I know is stupid short. I appreciate the creativity, but this film doesn’t have much going for it other than that, though Yeun & Stewart’s performances were solid.

High: The sound was decent. The different beeps, boops, nature, & even the silence all conveyed the intended effect. Although the film was boring, it was at least fun to listen to.

Low: There was part of the film were the two characters interact with each other via avatar in a metaverse, and it looked like the Sims. And it was not good. It felt like I was watching an add for a bad mobile game and it lasted WAY too long. Like honestly I think over half the film was this silly little animation style. I understood why it happened when it did from a narrative point, but I think it should’ve transitioned the characters to live action much earlier in the film.
