Companion
Review: So I went to the movie theater to see ‘Nickel Boys.’ But then I ran into my boy Edro so I decided to tag along with him to ‘Companion’ because I run with the pack. * WOLF HOWL * Anyways, this 2025 horror comedy was quite enjoyable. I really like Jack Quaid, and he is so charismatic in this film (while also being equally detestable). Sophie Thatcher is great in the lead role. I find it hilarious that Iris (Thatcher) tells you exactly what’s going to happen in the first sentence of the film but you still never really know where the film is going to go next. There were some really good kills in this movie & all the characters made up a very solid ensemble.
High: The pacing of this film was FANTASTIC. I feel like pacing is the main part of a horror film that can make or break it, and it worked well here. I really don’t love horror films, like at all, but this film really isn’t too horror. It wasn’t too scary or slasher-y. That being said, I do still think it has enough that fans of horror will be satisfied.
Low: Not gonna lie, the writing was a little rough. The story was great, but the dialogue itself wasn’t great, specifically in the first half. But it really did improve in the second half, so I just feel as though I’m being a little nitpicky now.
