The Wild Robot

Review: I apologize (not sure to who?) that it took me so long to get around to watching this. But I finally did, just in time for the Oscars! This film features a very strong storyline & really good writing/dialogue, especially for an animated movie. It features a stacked voice cast Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O’Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, & Ving Rhames, but almost all of them use voices specific to their characters as opposed to just their normal voices. I’m not opposed to films using traditional actors opposed to voice actors, but I do really appreciate when the actors put more effort in. I’d say the main exception to this was Rhames, but to be fair, his voice already worked for the character. This film is one that I think is EVEN BETTER when you become a parent, but can be enjoyed by anyone. If you haven’t yet, go watch it!

High: This film was stunning. Visually. Audibly. The score was fantastic. Those do happen to be the three Oscars it was nominated for & I strongly believe it should win Best Animated Feature, though I still have two nominees left to watch. Truly a great film & it was hands down the best animated film of 2024, a title I had previously given to ‘Transformers One.’

Low: I really did enjoy this film, but if I had to highlight a low I’d say that there was several points that I feel like the movie could have ended. I’m not saying it SHOULD have ended at those points, but it felt it COULD have. If I wasn’t keeping an eye on the runtime (we were getting close to Rider’s nap time) I would’ve thought it was ending a few times. Also, and no offense to Kit Connor, I wish Brightbill would’ve stayed little longer because Boone Storme, who voiced the younger version of the character did an absolutely adorable job.
