X-Men: Days of Future Past
Review: Upon rewatch of all of them, I think this is my favorite of the X-Men films. It starts off with the ‘Twilight Breaking Dawn- Part Two’ twist of killing off all these characters and then PSYCH they’re all okay. Then it just proceeds to be a comic book cinema master piece. It blends the old & new X-Men really, really well and having Wolverine (easily the best part of any X-Men movie) be the bridge was genius. There are so many enjoyable moments (e.g. Professor X saying he’s not good with violence then punching Magneto in the face). I also touched in this in my last review, but using real world events (JFK Assassination) to advance your story is a helpful tool that I can appreciate.
High: The scene of Quicksilver in the kitchen. This is one of the very best scenes in a comic book movie, and one of my personal favorite scenes of all-time. It is still the best depiction of super speed I’ve ever seen on screen. Peter Maximoff as a whole really was just so great. Talking to Magneto about whiplash and karate and all his quips are fantastic.
Low: The low of this movie doesn’t even come from this movie. I’ll continue to talk about this in coming reviews, but the whole X-Men timeline makes zero sense. It is such a mess. This movie retcons a lot of it with time travel (oooooo), but there are still so many questions, especially after the release of ‘Logan.’ There are also a few moments that seem illogical and we just really need answers to. How the heck is Hank able to heal Charles’ paralysis with a shot and why on Earth does that affect his powers? Also, why did we not get some sort of answer on how Logan knows Peter? Why does the storyline of Mystique being Stryker go nowhere? And then more questions comes, like did the original ‘X-Men’ trilogy not even happen now? Who knows? Not me.
