Cars 3
Review: I’m not a NASCAR fan personally. But I do like Cars. The movie not the vehicle. If NASCAR made the cars animated and they could talk and the races were only like 10-minute montages and there was a whole lead-up with a great training story and learning about the power of friendship and family and respecting different ways of doing things and the if the best racer had an endearing hick best friend and also if there was a jerk villain, then I’d probably be a fan. Jackson Storm is a very good villain and it’s impressive they are able to make the three main racing antagonists (Chick Hicks, Franceso Bernoulli, & Storm) each different and not just ‘Oh I’m faster than you Lightning!’ I also took notice of the fact that many people complained about ‘Cars 2’ being all about Mater (which I didn’t mind), so he really took a backseat in this one for Lightning and many new characters. While not a bad movie, to me, this is the weakest of the trilogy.
High: This is the same thing I said for every Toy Story movie, the dramatic increase in animation quality is jarring. While I don’t think that’s as true here as it is with those movies, it definitely still applies and is absolutely worth noting.
Low: While I really respect the angle of Lightning becoming Cruz’s mentor and understand the sentiment, I think they really should have had him finish the race. That’s just me though. I’m biased as a lifelong Lightning McQueen fan myself. Kachow.
