Inside Out 2
Review: The follow up to one of Pixar’s strongest entries, Inside Out 2 is one of the best movies of 2024 so far. Those old emotions we all know and have come right back to where we left them and we get multiple new emotions who are all extremely relevant to the teenage experience. While I think the first movie was more emotional, this one was much more relatable. Maya Hawks & Ayo Edebiri are great additions to the cast and they both did such great voice work that embodied Anxiety & Envy, respectively. Embarassment and Ennui were also welcome additions. I really enjoyed Pixar doing something different and including a few characters in different animation styles (Lance Slashblade, Bloofy, & Pouchy). I love how movies like this are helping break the stigma around mental health and letting kids know that whatever feelings they’re feeling are normal and okay!
High: Taking a phenomenal movie and building a sequel that is equal in quality (I personally think I prefer the first a little bit) is an impressive feat that is accomplished here. I personally have not been as low on Pixar recently as most people, but this movie was definitely a return to form for the studio.
Low: I honestly can’t think of a low for this film. I think it’s a great movie that does what it sets out to do.
