Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Review: I was so impressed that there was no big name start in this film (no offense to any actors attached), but it didn’t feel like it was without a star because of the front and center focus they gave the best part of these films… the apes. The characters we saw in Noa and the Eagle Tribe, Raka, and Proximus were all incredible, notable, and memorable. The human characters though (Freya Allen’s Mae & William H. Macy’s Trevathan) played good supporting roles without shifting the focus.

High: They nailed what could make or break this movie, the CGI. I quite literally was jaw dropped at certain points of this film seeing the realism of the apes. That is due in part to the actors and their physicality so huge creds to them, but the animators on this just went off. I was confident Dune take home the upcoming Oscar for visual effects, but now my pick is 100% this film.

Low: The mystery surrounding Nova/Mae and her people was incredibly frustrating, but I know the ambiguity was intentional. I just hope that in future sequels they explore this and provide us with some sort of explanation. Honestly, it just excites me even more for the sequels.
