Planet of the Apes (1968)

Review: The film that started it all. Before there was a horrendous Mark Wahlberg outing, before Caesar, Maurice, & Koba there was just Charlton Heston smoking a cigar on a spaceship. The film holds up relatively well, with the effects being incredibly good for the time. The acting is dated, but not bad, it still works for this movie. The world feels very fleshed out though it does feel a little small. I contribute this to the age and the inability to do anything too big.

High: One of the all-time best film endings and one of the all-time best plot twists. Side not, it’s so silly to me that some of the posters now just straight up feature the Statue of Liberty on them. So dumb.

Low: I’m not sure why Taylor felt the need to give Zira a goodbye kiss, especially on the mouth, but I sure wish he hadn’t.

Rating: 7.5/10
