War for the Planet of the Apes
Review: A brilliant conclusion to an awesome trilogy. This film wraps up this era of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ saga so well, but also manages to leave the door wide open for the story that comes next. It continued to build upon the wonderful character and leader that is Caesar and round out his story nicely. It set the stakes high by SPOILERS killing off some apes we know well throughout the story. It introduces us to some new cool apes like Red the Donkey and Bad Ape, who has to be the most inappropriately named character ever because he is anything but bad. He’s so innocent and pure. Woody Harrelson’s Colonel solidifies himself as one of the best human characters in this franchise (along with Tom Felton and Jason Clarke’s characters from prior films) and he’s such a loath-able villain.
High: Once again the high is the performance of one, Andy Serkis. He excels in the role of Caesar and really brings the character to life.
Low: My low is that this is the last of these films with Serkis as Caesar.
