The Fantastic Four

Review: First of all, if you didn’t read the tagline, go read that. It’s so bad. Like that’s awful. So is this movie. That’s no secret, it never even got released. This somehow manages to be both better and worse than the 2015 version. I honestly feel bad for writing a review because this movie has been crapped on enough, and I’ll give it this. It’s bad in an endearing way because it’s a B-movie with a low budget. There’s a lot of negative takeaways from this film. The actor that played Ben Grimm was so bad, as was the actress who played Mrs. Storm, who literally only had like two scenes. The scene of the two of them talking on the porch made my stomach hurt. Also, why on Earth would you start the movie with Sue as a kid? There was no need for a time jump. And it made her relationship and eventual marriage to Reed so creepy because he’s an adult this whole time and knows her when she’s like 12 or whatever. Just creepy and unnecessary. At one point I just quit taking notes because there was so many bad things. For example, the whole point of the character of The Thing is that he’s stuck like that, but for some reason they had him change back to Ben in a scene like some sort of Hulk transformation? Also Dr. Doom is a good enough villain, you don’t also need to add some guy with a big nose named ‘The Jeweler.’ Very ominous name I might add. Sue was useless in this movie, I don’t think she did anything to help anyone in the climax. And the finale with Johnny and the laser looked like a cut scene from a forgettable GameCube video game. And the last scene, why did Reed get married in his super suit? And then his little wobbly hand waving in the air was the perfect close to a film.

High: Honestly the score wasn’t bad. Some very dramatic music, it just didn’t really fit the vibe of this film.

Low: The dialogue was bad. The acting was worse. The special effects were bad. The story-telling was worse.

Rating: 1.5/10 (I’m giving it .5 higher than the 2015 version because this version has an excuse for being bad)
