That Christmas
Review: This 2024 animated film focuses on a small English town & the people within it during a blizzard on Christmas Eve. Though my score isn’t stunningly high, this is the best new Christmas movie I’ve watched this year & I WOULD recommend it to anyone looking for a new movie to enjoy this holiday season. It was a very fun watch & a great one for the whole family to enjoy. The animation was decent & made the film feel familiar. I also appreciated the title & what I believe to be a joke referencing all the different ‘——— Christmas’ movies; This, Last, White, etc.
High: Of all the 2024 Christmas movies I’ve watched thus far, I’d say this is the one that has the right recipe to be a classic. It has quirky & memorable, yet relatable characters, solid jokes, & the emotions that are needed for any good Christmas movie. All those things put together makes a film that I think will be one that many families rewatch every year. Perhaps this is just because of the animation & British-ness, but it very much reminded me of ‘Arthur Christmas’ which is my favorite Christmas movie.
Low: I would’ve loved to hear more of Brian Cox (Santa) & Bill Nighy (Lighthouse Bill), just because I feel as though they (& Fiona Show) were the big hitters in this movie. But that’s really just a complaint I had while looking for a low. Narratively I think that the amount their characters appeared makes sense.
