Flight Risk
Review: This film just led me to so many questions. Why did they make him bald? Why did they make Wahlberg do that accent? Why would you not make your protagonist likable? Mel Gibson? Why are there so many jokes about people making accidents in their pants? (There’s no less than three). Did the writers just not care? How do you make a movie with a $25 million budget and even the makeup of bruises look bad? Did the people speaking over the phone read their lines before delivering them? Or was that their first go at it?
High: Topher Grace was okay. He was endearing and interesting about 40% of the time. That may seem low, but it’s over double everyone else!
Low: With all the missteps this film took, the most egregious was that every shot outside of the plane very clearly featured AI. AI can be a helpful tool in any field, even filmmaking. But it SHOULD NOT be used to make art. I have no issue with artists using it as an aid to refine their creations, but using it to make the creation is bad. I have never seen anything convincing, let alone inspired. And that remains true in this case. The opening shot of the motel looked garbage. The moose looked garbage. All the outside shots looked garbage. Do better.
