Dune Part Two

Review: The best new film I’ve seen in a while. I’ve seen some discourse about how ‘Oppenheimer’ was lucky this movie got pushed back to 2024 or it wouldn’t be winning as many Oscars as it likely will. I couldn’t agree more, and that is in no way a diss on Oppie. This is cinema. A beautiful piece of work that is best experience on the big screen. A wonderful follow up to the already great Part One, but it also can stand on it’s own as a great film. If you’re a fan of the original novel, I think this is a faithful adaptation that really just brings the pages to life. In a film with a great script and beautiful imagery, somehow all of that takes a backseat to the ensemble. Everyone gave a peak performance. Timothée Chalamet solidified himself in my mind as the greatest actor of this generation. There is not a thing I would change about this movie. Finally, Denis Villeneuve, I tip my cap to you sir.

High: Oh where to even go here. I’ll choose my two personal favorite scenes. Firstly the scene where Paul declares himself to all the Fremen and basically says ‘I’m here and I’m Him.’ Secondly, Spoiler Warning for the ending of the film, the knife fight between Paul & Feyd-Rautha was choreographed and shot to perfection. Also, the lack of music made it so much more intense.

Low: This is tough, I don’t want to cop out and not give an answer so I’ll say as someone who has read the original novel, Christopher Walken was not how I personally envisioned Emperor Shaddam IV, but he didn’t have enough screen time to really bother me.
