Spaceman
Review: The newest addition to the ever growing Adam Sandler-Netflix family. My first reaction to this movie is that I really should’ve Googled it. I saw Adam Sandler and assumed it was a comedy. I apologize for putting you in a box Adam. This joins his fairly short list of dramatic roles, though many of those have come in recent years so I’m sure more are coming. I’ll admit I didn’t love this movie, but there were some things I did enjoy. I think if done well, a movie focused mostly on one human character can be very intriguing. The visuals, especially the Chopra and Hanuš, were pretty good and the voice work of Paul Dano was decent as well. Overall, the movie felt a little stale and I think there were a few occasions where it missed the mark in terms of the story telling and maybe I had missed a few minutes because I felt like it jumped around. I think an improvement that could’ve been made was to focus solely on Jakub & Hanuš and they were the only characters we actually saw.
High: The Sandman. He really showed off in this one and his acting is my main big takeaway. I think he’s trying to put the world on notice that he can be a dramatic actor (once again I apologize for boxing him in) and I think he helped his case in this role.
Low: As someone not familiar with the source material, I think the film could’ve used more world building.
