Look Who’s Talking
Review: If I ask you to name a movie starring John Travolta & Bruce Willis and you say ‘Look Who’s Talking’ and not ‘Pulp Fiction’ I’m going to ask that you seek medical attention. I’ll admit that upon starting this film (like the first half hour) I thought there was no way it was going to be higher than like a 3 on my rating. Though it really worked hard in the last hour to redeem itself, and it succeeded. Honestly, as soon as John Travolta came in the movie improved dramatically. All of the taxi driving sequences were very well done and the final act was also very solid. Bruce Willis’s voice acting was extremely comical and they matched it really well with the child actors. Kirstie Alley played a fun protagonist who had great chemistry with Travolta. And as a new father with an almost two month old, I found the commentary of Mikey extremely similar to the dialogue I give my son.
High: Easily John Travolta. He seemed so effortlessly cool and his love for Mikey was extremely endearing. I also think he must tell studios he will only star in their films if he gets to dance at least once. My wife’s big takeaway/plus was that John Travolta ‘has a real firm butt.’
Low: The fetus. I understand what they were going for and think they gave it some… effort. This is the main reason I thought this was going to be awful. As soon as the creepy puppet doll thing was replaced with an actual baby, the movie really turned around for me. This movie would’ve been much better if it remained out of utero for it’s duration.
