The Wicker Man

Review: I’ve started to make a habit of watching movies relating to obscure holidays, so for May Day I watched ‘The Wicker Man.’ I was shocked that I enjoyed this movie. I’m not really a horror guy, but this film was just so well done. The cinematography was also surprisingly good so major props on that. The snide remarks from Sgt. Howie are decently funny. It holds up really well, it’s ominous but not too scary. While some of the imagery is outrageous, it accomplished exactly what is intended. Even though it’s strange and complex it’s not confusing. The soundtrack and score were great.

High: Christopher Lee. He’s fantastic. I’ve never seen him anything prior to age like 70. He plays such a cunning and charismatic villain, exactly what a cult leader like this should be.

Low: I think the legacy of this film is unfairly tainted by the 2006 Nic Cage remake so the low is the fact that it was remade. Not the bees!

Rating: 9/10
