Mt. Rushmore- Margot Robbie
One of the premier working actresses, Robbie has already garnered 3 Oscar nominatins (one as a producer), 4 Golden Globe nominations, & 6 BAFTA nominations. She has starred in critically acclaimed films, blockbusters, and everything in between. Robbie has a slew of iconic roles, most of which are iconic because of the actress herself. Some honorable mentions I’d like to honorably mention include: Queen Elizabeth I in ‘Mary Queen of Scots,’ Sharon Tate in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ Nellie LaRoy in ‘Babylon,’ & her Oscar-nominated outing as Kayla Pospisil in ‘Bombshell.’
Tonya Harding in ‘I, Tonya’- Kicking us off in one of Robbie’s two Oscar-nominated roles. The film is a biopic of Tony Harding and her connection to the 1994 assault of Nancy Kerrigan. Told from the POV of Harding & her ex, Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), the film presents Harding as an unreliable narrator. The film is a dark comedy & features many fourth wall breaks and is a less glamorous role than Robbie may usually play.
Harley Quinn in ‘Suicide Squad’- A role that has been played by Robbie thrice to date, this was Robbie’s first blockbuster franchise role. Playing the chaotic sweetheart of the Joker, Robbie helped solidify Harley as a prominent character in the DCEU, surpassing the popularity of that universe’s Joker (Jared Leto). Robbie also played Harley in ‘Birds of Prey’ and ‘The Suicide Squad,’ which if you’re unaware is a different movie than ‘Suicide Squad.’
Naomi LaPaglia in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’- The role that introduced Robbie to American audiences and launched her to stardom was one of her earliest roles. Working across from Leonardo DiCaprio in a Martin Scorsese film, Robbie’s role in this film also made her a 21st century sex symbol and gained her a large fanbase with the… male demographic.
Barbie in ‘Barbie’- Last and certainly not least. The biggest movie of 2023 and one of the biggest movies so far in the 2020s, Robbie leads a hilariously brilliant ensemble as Stereotypical Barbie in a shockingly powerful performance that many believe deserved an Oscar nomination. The film became a cultural phenomenon like few others have, became the highest grossing film of the year, and made Robbie even more of a megastar than she already was.
