Rebel Ridge
Review: A crime thriller/action film that came out last month on Netflix, this films depicts a former military martial arts training specialist (Aaron Pierre) who has his cousin’s bail money unjustly taken from him by police & ends up having to take on the whole force, led by their corrupt chief (Don Johnson). The supporting cast includes AnnaSophia Robb, David Denham, & James Cromwell. Overall a very solid film with a good narrative, the film was a decent watch, though I don’t see it going down as a classic. I do think Pierre will be a certified star one day and this film definitely helped boost his credibility there.
High: For an action film, it felt very grounded. Pierre did a great job with his scenes of making his character an intimidating force, but all of skills felt realistic. He was clearly more well trained than the men he was fighting, but didn’t feel like some superhero-esque figure that was untouchable.
Low: I’ll admit that the ending felt a little loose. I just feel like a lot of things were left open, though I will admit I’m not sure how you could realistically & effectively solve all the problems presented without Terry getting a very long prison sentence.
