O’Dessa
Review: This movie was wacko. A new 2025 film that just came out on Hulu, this film follow a young farm girl, O’Dessa (Sadie Sink), who embarks on a journey in a post-apocalyptic world. And also, it’s a musical. The film also features Kelvin Harrison Jr., Regina Hall, Mark Boone Junior, & Murray Bartlett. I really had no idea Sadie Sink could sing, but she sounded very good in this film. This is one of those movies that I watch & plan to review, but just don’t even know what to say because it’s so out there. This movie was very visually & audially stimulating. It featured very creative character designs, costuming, set designs, and concepts. And even though the premise is very strange, the plot itself is very easy to follow & navigate. All those positive things being said, this film really didn’t do more than scratch the surface of anything so that held it back for me. Though I did somewhat enjoy it, it’s the kind of movie I hesitate to recommend because I really don’t think it contains much mass appeal.
High: For all the people constantly, constantly complaining about no original ideas in Hollywood, here you go. Say whatever you will about this movie, but it was no doubt original.
Low: I really wish we could have spent more time with Murray Bartlett’s Plutonovich. I think he was a very intriguing villain & overall character. I guess the ambiguity does give him a sort of ‘Big Brother’ vibe so there’s that. I do kind of respect that the backstory we get on him is ‘he stole all the Plazma and now makes everyone watch his TV show’ and we’re just supposed to be satisfied with that (it worked on me. When they said that I genuinely thought, ‘yeah, okay’).
