Hot Frosty
Review: A Hallmark-esque movie original to Netflix, this film was pretty bad. But in the cheesy Christmas romance movie way that it intends to be, so it works. There was some good laughs & sweet heartfelt moments in this film about a sexy snowman coming to life and falling in love with Lacey Chabert. If you’re a fan of the ‘Hallmark style’ movies, then this should absolutely be a movie you watch this holiday season, as the production value is a little higher since its from Netflix. There were several specific moments from the movie I want to point out. The ‘Pretty Woman’ date was a nice gag & if you’re a fan of ‘The Bachelor’ this should’ve solidified they’d end up together. When the kid asked Jack who his date was and he said ‘Her over there… the adult,’ that got a good chuckle out of me. I also appreciated the self awareness of Chabert’s character asking the town ‘You all just buy that he’s a snowman’ and their response being ‘Yes! It’s Christmas!’ Because, yea, fair enough. I also was agape at Jack asking Kathy (Chabert) point black ‘What’s cancer?’ And finally I find it comical that the song that played during the conclusion wasn’t a Christmas song, but instead a Coldplay song.
High: Craig Robinson & Joe Lo Truglio. These two were hilarious. Robinson played his typical archetype and it worked really well as the slightly antagonistic sheriff and Lo Truglio as his kind hearted deputy. They were just great. The twist of the boy Jack befriended being the son of the sheriff was great. And Lo Truglio’s delivery of all his jokes was great (e.g. ‘well, we needed a description of his face’).
Low: I think attractiveness is more than just physical. But when your movie is called ‘Hot Frosty’ and is about a snowman turned into a hot man, I feel like the guy should be a little more objectively good-looking. And I’m not trying to be a jerk. Dustin Mulligan, who plays Jack, is an above average looking dude, and better looking than me for sure. But I just couldn’t get passed it. And with a movie like this that really isn’t met to be good, it’s hard to pick a low because it’s kind of all a low.
