Mt. Rushmore- Chris Evans
One of the biggest blockbuster stars of the 21st century, Chris Evans has taken on many well known roles in his career. Though his recent years have been stricken by less than stellar films, they still usually perform quite well commercially. Some of his honorable mention roles that I’d like to honorably mention include Andy Barber in ‘Defending Jacob,’ Jake Wyler in ‘Not Another Teen Movie,’ Casey Jones in ‘TMNT,’ Jensen in ‘The Losers,’ Frank Adler in ‘Gifted,’ Buzz Lightyear in ‘Lightyear,’ & Jack O’Malley in ‘Red One.’
Captain America in the MCU- Come on. Duh. One of the most iconic characters in 21st century film in the most prominent film series. Between 2011’s ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ through 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Evans played Steve Rogers 7 times, with 3 additional cameos in other films. This role made Evans a household name and one of the highest grossing actors on the planet. And the journey he took the character on from start to finish is a chef’s kiss.
Human Torch in ‘Fantastic Four’- Before he donned the shield, Evans donned the flames of Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the two ‘Fantastic Four’ films from Fox. Evans’ first blockbuster role, he fit the role very well & was able to flame on once more in 2023’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’
Lucas Lee in ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’- I really debated what to put in this spot, but I decided to go with one of Ramona Flowers’ Seven Evil Exes that Scott Pilgrim must fight in the 2010 films. Evans also reprised the role in all 8 episodes of the animated series ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.’
Ransom Drysdale in ‘Knives Out’- One of Evans’s few antagonistic roles, he is a member of the extensive Thrombey family all of whom are suspects in the death of family patriarch & mystery writer, Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). Ransom is a conceited, adversarial jerk and Evans is really great in the role. The only thing about the role more iconic than Evans’ performance is that sweater he wears.
