My Top 10 Favorite Movie Scenes

I feel like that’s straightforward enough. In this list, I’ll be highlighting not what I consider the top 10 BEST movie scenes, but what I consider my personal top 10 favorite. A lot of these comes from movies I consider my all-time favorites as well.

The Final Battle in ‘Avengers: Endgame’- I feel like when I talk about my love for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ I lose a lot of people’s respect as a film fan. But I’m not going to act like I don’t adore this movie. It’s fun. It’s climactic. And it’s payoff to nearly two dozen other films. And it all comes together in this cinematic final battle between The Avengers & Thanos’s army. Every major character gets at least one cool moment with the big three (Captain America, Iron Man, & Thor) getting a ton of great moments. There were so many applause worthy moments (Cap using Mjolnir, the portals opening, etc.) & there are also so many good callbacks and references.

The Knife Fight in ‘Dune: Part Two’- I do enjoy a big final battle, but sometimes all you need is two people and a couple blades. The lack of score makes every sound so transparent and the fight choreography is brilliant. Though I was already confident I enjoyed this movie more than the first ‘Dune,’ this fight pushed it over the top for me. May thy knife chip and shatter.

Wicked Smart in ‘Good Will Hunting’- This is perhaps my favorite scene in any movie ever. It’s so well written, gives me chills, & majorly contributes to my love for Matt Damon. From Will saving Chuckie, to shoving it to Clark, to meeting Skylar, and especially the post bar sequence of ‘Do you like apples?’ I’ve pulled this scene up on YouTube several times just to watch it.

The Parade in ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’- This is just the epitome of fun. It perfectly encapsulates both the character of Ferris & the tone of the film. Every time I watch it I just think to myself ‘man I want to do that.’ Both ‘Danke Schoen’ & ‘Twist and Shout’ were spectacular song choices.

The Trinity Test in ‘Oppenheimer’- While in real life this is retrospectively a very negative event in human history, the film depicts it so well. The lead up of work put in by this huge conglomeration of minds for a single moment. The sound in this scene is spectacular and while ‘Oppenheimer’ won 7 Oscar, I think it was robbed of the Best Sound award, specifically because of this scene.

Opening Robbery in ‘The Dark Knight’- The greatest opening scene in a film, this movie shows how erratically calculate the Joker is and how formidable he will be as a villain. In what is inarguably one of the greatest films of all-time, this scene perfectly sets the tone for the film and lets you know it’s going to be non-stop action from start to finish.

O Captain! in ‘Dead Poets Society’- From opening to close, I would say this is perhaps the best closing scene of a film. It shows not only the impact that John Keating (Robin Williams) has had on his students, but it also shows the growth of the character that they were willing to step out against authority to show their support of Keatin, specifically from Todd (Ethan Hawke).

Baseball in ‘Twilight’- The ‘Twilight Saga’ are some of my go to guilty pleasure movies. I understand they’re not good, but I just have such a fun time watching them. And this scene kind of demonstrates why. It’s an incredibly cheesy scene of vampires playing baseball. And it is utterly fantastic. And the soundtrack choice of ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ is just a chef’s kiss.

Coming for Everything in ‘The Social Network’- There are many great scenes in ‘The Social Network’ though I would say my favorite has to come from Eduardo (Andrew Garfield) learning that Mark (Jesse Eisenberg) has truly aligned himself with Sean (Justin Timberlake) and has pretty much cut him out of the company. Garfield’s line delivery of ‘You better lawyer up a**hole. I’m not coming back for 30%, I’m coming back for everything’ perfectly conveys the character’s emotions and intensity of the situation.

Quicksilver in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’- In what I think is one of the top films of the ‘X-Men’ franchise, this is a fun film that merges the young & old casts. To me, the highlight of the film has got to be Evan Peters take on Quicksilver, specifically in the scene in which we see how things appear from his point of view when he’s using his super speed in the Pentagon kitchen while breaking out Magneto. While the scene in which he clears out the X-Manion in ‘Apocalypse’ is very good as well, this scene clears it for me.
